🌿 Step-by-step plan: Planting a ready-made ivy hedge
🛠️ Supplies:
- Ready-made ivy hedge panels
- Spade and ground drill
- Spirit level
- Garden gloves
- Potting soil or planting soil
- Watering can or garden hose
- Optional: posts and mounting materials
1. Location preparation
- Choose a spot with sufficient sunlight or partial shade.
- Remove weeds, stones and old roots.
- Ensure a straight line where the hedge should go.
2. Prepare the soil
- Dig a trench about 10cm deep and 15cm wide.
- Mix the excavated soil with planting soil or compost for a good start.
3. Installing the hedge panels
- Place the hedge panels upright in the groove, with the frame firmly in the ground.
- Use a spirit level to make sure these are straight.
4. Confirm
- For loose panels: secure them to posts or an existing structure with binding wire or wire saddles/clamps.
- Make sure the hedge is firmly in place, especially in wind-prone locations.
5. Filling and pressing
- Fill the trench with the mixed soil.
- Press the soil firmly around the roots and the frame.
- Make sure the root ball is well covered.
6. Watering
- Water generously immediately after planting.
- Continue watering regularly during the first few weeks, especially in dry weather.
7. Maintenance
- Prune 1–2 times a year to keep the hedge in shape.
- Provide some organic fertilizer in spring for healthy growth.
