🌿 Step-by-step plan: Planting a ready-made ivy hedge

🛠️ Supplies:

  • Ready-made ivy hedge panels
  • Spade and ground drill
  • Spirit level
  • Garden gloves
  • Potting soil or planting soil
  • Watering can or garden hose
  • Optional: posts and mounting materials

1. Location preparation

  • Choose a spot with sufficient sunlight or partial shade.
  • Remove weeds, stones and old roots.
  • Ensure a straight line where the hedge should go.

2. Prepare the soil

  • Dig a trench about 10cm deep and 15cm wide.
  • Mix the excavated soil with planting soil or compost for a good start.

3. Installing the hedge panels

  • Place the hedge panels upright in the groove, with the frame firmly in the ground.
  • Use a spirit level to make sure these are straight.

4. Confirm

  • For loose panels: secure them to posts or an existing structure with binding wire or wire saddles/clamps.
  • Make sure the hedge is firmly in place, especially in wind-prone locations.

5. Filling and pressing

  • Fill the trench with the mixed soil.
  • Press the soil firmly around the roots and the frame.
  • Make sure the root ball is well covered.

6. Watering

  • Water generously immediately after planting.
  • Continue watering regularly during the first few weeks, especially in dry weather.

7. Maintenance

  • Prune 1–2 times a year to keep the hedge in shape.
  • Provide some organic fertilizer in spring for healthy growth.
